RHYE are composed by the Canadian Mike Milosh and the Danish Robin Hannibal. They released singles “Open” and “The Fall” online without much detail that led to speculation about the band. “Woman’ ,the debut album, confirm the L.A. based dream pop duo as one of the best indie bands actually on the scene. ‘Woman’ is made of lush ballads arranged for piano, violin and synths with Sade -inspired vocals. When asked how to sum up their music they normally respond with some sort of juxtaposition: “decadence and decay” or “melancholy disco”, but ultimately they say, if you strip away all the smug adjectives, it’s really just pop.
London duo Woman E, who are confusingly made up of London born Ria Berlin and Berlin born OoverMatic, decided 3 years ago to put something back into pop music that seemed to have gone missing over the years: a point of view. “We thought it was dull how pop music rarely dealt with anything but lyrical clichés and that it was missing out on the opportunity to be subversive. Subversion is not the prerogative of guys with guitars or people who shout a lot” And so they stumbled into their first juxtaposition: subversive pop. Melody Prochet, the Parisian psych-popper who records as Melody’s Echo Chamber, released her self-titled album last month. Before that she released the video for one of the album’s highlights ‘You Won’t Be Missing That Part Of Me’. The video was filmed by Matthew Saville in Perth, Australia and it’ s full of psychedelic effects and sun-dazed cinematography around the recording. PINES, Alison Sudol’s third full-length as A Fine Frenzy (release date: October 9, 2012), is a fable about a pining tree who is given the unheard-of chance (for a conifer) to make a life of her own choosing. Brooklyn four-piece Young Unknowns are out with their new track “Far Enough”. The gorgeous follow up to the project’s well-received first single “Target Practice” taken from their forthcoming debut EP You Are A Young Unknown due out 10/2. Young Unknowns deliver emotionally charged lyrics and lush production infused with an edge of 90′s indie rock. Produced by Bill Racine (Rogue Wave, Mates of State) the forthcoming EP draws its influences from the likes of Sonic Youth, Kate Bush, and Curve, creating ethereal music you can still dance to. After leaving home as a teen, front woman and Oklahoma native Meredith Meyer first cut her teeth playing around the LA scene in a number of local bands before turning her focus solo and recording two LPs under her own name. Two years ago, in need of a change, she made the jump to New York and started over. Through a series of chance encounters and other fortunate twists, Meyer met drummer Matt Arbeiter, collected bassist Bryan Percivall and guitarist Mike MacAlllister, and thus just earlier this year Young Unknowns was born.
