‘….And all that jazz’ we would say. The Harlow feels it’s a duty remembering beloved David Warren Brubeck. Dave to most. Pianist, composer, life of the 20th century. American and most of all, foremost exponent of progressive jazz. The bombastic Dave Brubeck. He said goodbye yesterday at 91, we would have been 92 just today. He has left us his classical training and improvisational skills, those amazing contrasting rhythms, those meters, those tonalities that would bump to our ears like everyday life. A break between musical genres, particularly jazz and classical music. He was also the first modern jazz musician pictured on the cover of Time magazine on Nov. 8, 1954. Dave Brubeck, the master of jazz. “Take Five” will always be a musical milestone a complex jazz composition for millions of listeners. The Jazz, maybe America’s best genre and face to the world. We would like to remember his with his own words. When asked what he would think of Jazz, he would say: “Jazz is about freedom within discipline, many people don’t understand how disciplined you have to be to play jazz. … And that is really the idea of democracy, freedom within the Constitution or discipline. You don’t just get out there and do anything you want.”
